In Bedford alone there are over 2,400 adults and 800 children with a learning disability and these numbers are increasing with population growth and are exacerbated by areas with large minority ethnic groups and poverty.
The Bedfordshire Opportunities for Learning Disabilities Appeal represents the most exciting opportunity in a generation to make the next leap forward in services that will transform lives for people with a learning disability, autism and challenging behaviour in Bedfordshire.
The new centre will break the mould for service provision, with a multidisciplinary team working together to tackle the full spectrum of challenges faced by people with a learning disability; not just education, but work experience, independent living skills, social opportunities, health issues, community integration and transition. Supporting over 300 adults, teenagers and parents/carers each week, the new centre will provide desperately needed services that are currently not available to the community.
